A number of academics who, throughout 2019, published books about their research, are being nominated for the National Book Prize.
Prof. Anthony Aquilina, from the Faculty of Arts, received three nominations, in the Translation category, for the publications Mademoiselle Perle u Aktar, Il-Maqlub u s-Sewwa and "L-Intruża" u "L-Għomja", which he translated.
Prof. Immanuel Mifsud from the Faculty of Arts received two nominations; one in the Maltese poetry category for his book Madwar Sagħtejn u Nofs 'il Bogħod mill-Ġenna and one in the Short Stories Category, for L-Aqwa Żmien.
Prof. George Cassar, who co-wrote Buttons Parade, Military and Civilian Uniform Buttons in Malta, is on the long-list in the Biographical & Historical Research category. Also on this list are Prof. Henry Frendo, author of The Sette Giugno in Maltese History 1919-2019 and Prof. Victor Mallia-Milanes, for Valletta: Malta's Hospitaller City and Other Essays.
Rev. Dr Jonathan Farrugia edited Ir-Redentur: History, Art and Cult of the Miraculous Effigy of Christ the Redeemer in Senglea, Malta, which was nominated in the Biographical and Historiographic research category.
Also nominated in this category was Prof. Paul A. Bartolo's X'Kien Ġara Sew fis-Sette Giugno.

Rev. Prof. Hector Scerri received a nomination for his book Cor ad Cor Loquitur - Qalb Tkellem lill-Qalb: Ġabra ta' Diskorsi dwar il-Fidi u l-Ħajja Nisranija fil-Knisja u fis-Soċjetà (1998-2019) - Vol. 2, Partijiet 1 u 2.
Prof. Carmel Cefai together with his colleague Ms Natalie Galea was nominated for the publication which he co-authored, titled A Passage to Malta: The Health and Wellbeing of Foreign Children in Malta.
Prof. Doreen Spiteri was nominated for her book Examining an Examination.
Sociologist Prof. Mark-Anthony Falzon from the Faculty of Arts wrote a book called The Examined Life: Writings in Honour of Guido Lanfranco, which he was nominated for.
Prof. Arnold Cassola is being nominated for his publication The Joannes Gennadius Maltese Treasure Trove in Athens.
Rev. Dr Joe Borg and Prof. Mary Anne Lauri were nominated for their book Navigating the Maltese Mediascape.
Prof. Joe Friggieri, a known philosopher, received a nomination for his Selected Philosophical Essays.
