Dr Sarah Cuschieri, on public health priorities
Public health concerns are plaguing our world’s communities.
From COVID-19 to type 2 diabetes, health-related issues are becoming more prevalent in countries worldwide - in fact, nearly 2 million people around the world have type 2 diabetes. Of those, almost 8 million individuals are not aware that they have T2D.
Nevertheless, this intensifying public health issue can wreak havoc on the body’s systems - from hearing loss to mental anxiety. As one of the most poorly understood and treated illnesses, T2D is more than just abnormal blood sugar control; rather it’s a progressive disorder with long-term, severely detrimental impacts on the body.
Moreover, T2D is the leading cause of blindness, amputations, and kidney failure, making it more important than ever to access proper treatment and care procedures.
