The Department of Mental Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences and Mental Health Services Malta collaborated together in the organisation of a webinar entitled "Advancing Mental Health Services through Innovation and Research".
This webinar provided a platform for students who recently completed their research as part of their Masters in Mental Health Nursing studies. Study findings related to the: ‘unsettled existence’ of carers of persons with borderline personality disorder; the narratives of couples who have experienced a miscarriage; the struggles of persons in the military and targeting the taboo associated with intimate partner violence were presented.
Recommendations relating to practice, education, policy and research were also provided. In addition, four nursing professionals (alumni of the Department of Mental Health) and employed with Mental Health Services Malta described various initiatives being taken to develop practice and person-centred outcomes within the substance misuse, child and adolescent mental health and the acute mental health setting. An evaluation of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) was also provided in the session.
This event provided an opportunity for both mental health stakeholders to share ideas and activities whilst collaborating in the pursuit of excellence in person- centred care, research and education. The organising committee consisted of Professor Josianne Scerri and Dr Alexei Sammut from the Department of Mental health together with Mr Kevin Gafa and Ms Christie Siegersma from Mental Health Services Malta.
