Ms Joanna Vella was invited to present the biomolecular tools used in her doctoral research about mitochondrial disorders at Europe BioBank Week between 17 and 20 November in the session about ‘Biobanking of rare diseases – new ideas to support research and healthcare’.
Ms Vella used the RD-Connect Genome Phenome Analysis Platform to analyse exome data and Dr Tom and Galaxy for RNA-sequencing analysis. Ms Vella is a student at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery’s Department of Physiology and Biochemistry.
Ms Vella was also invited to chair the session ‘Pitch your innovative ideas – make it happen’ on behalf of BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure, European Research Infrastructure Consortium) where Joanna is currently seconded as Quality Management Officer setting up a quality management system for CY-Biobank.
The theme for this year’s virtual edition of the annual conference is "Biobanking for Global Challenges". Europe Biobank Week is a joint effort of BBMRI-ERIC and ESBB (European, Middle Eastern & African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking).
