Rev. Dr Joseph Ellul, OP, member of the Department of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology within the Faculty of Theology, participated in a two-day international conference organised by the Thomistic Institute of the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome. The subject of the conference, which took place between 4-5 December 2020, was Is Belief in God Reasonable?
The title of Dr Ellul's paper was Vetera Novis Augere et Perficere: Thomas Aquinas and Christian-Muslim Dialogue. He referred to the Summa contra Gentiles and the De rationibus fidei wherein Aquinas suggests the method that should be adopted when engaging in debate with non-Catholic Christian as well as non-Christian scholars. He also argued as to whether and how the method proposed by Aquinas has its own validity in Christian-Muslim dialogue today.
The entire two-day conference was live-streamed and was therefore accessible to a good number of graduate students and professors worldwide.
