On Friday 11 December 2020, the Dean of the Faculty of Laws commemorated the annual Dean’s Awards Ceremony, which was held as a stand-alone event due to COVID-restrictions.
It was also decided that the annual Faculty of Laws Foundation Day 2020 would not be organised.

The Dean, Dr Ivan Mifsud, delivered a short speech in which he spoke about the challenges faced in this last year due to the pandemic. He also talked about how all the stakeholders have not only soldiered through, but also managed to identify and avail themselves of the opportunities which the pandemic presented, including online examinations.
The benefits resulted in collaborations, including with student organisations, with the Chamber of Advocates and also with sponsors who made the prizes possible.
The following student prizes were conferred during the event:
- Ms Anthea Sammut was conferred with the prize for Best Student in the LL.B. Hons. Course, by Dr Jelena Agranovska
- Ms Demi Agius was conferred with the GM Corporate & Fiduciary Services Limited Prize for Best Dissertation in Financial Services Law 'A Critical Analysis of Anti-Money Laundering Supervision in Europe with a Specific Focus on the Banking Sector. Is there a need for reform?’ by Dr Jean-Pie Gauci-Maistre and Dr Tiziana Filletti
- Ms Gabrielle Cachia is the winner of the Malta Maritime Forum Annual Award for the best Dissertation on a shipping/maritime law-related subject entitled 'Combatting Terrorism Attacks at Sea: An Analysis of the 1988 Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation and 2005 Protocol thereto', and her prize was conferred by Dr Godwin Xerri and Dr Joseph Bugeja
