As the coronavirus pandemic has evolved, various strategies were adopted in an attempt to stop the spread of the disease, treat patients and return to a new normal life in Malta. This includes vaccination roll-out in recent months and initiatives to open up the country to tourism. Professor Charmaine Gauci, Superintendent of Public Health for Malta's Ministry for Health, shared the experiences and lessons learnt during the pandemic and issues related to implementation of vaccine passports. Prof Charmaine Gauci is an associate professor at the University of Malta and teaches in the field of public health with special interest in Public Health, Epidemiology, Communicable Diseases, Health Promotion and Policy development.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ACMT is collaborating with US and international partner agencies and societies (including Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the European Association of Poison Centres and Clinical Toxicologists (EAPCCT) as well as members of the global clinical toxicology community to offer periodic web-based presentations, panel discussions, and briefings. Subject-matter experts and practitioners, many of whom are caring for COVID-19 patients, present on emerging issues related to COVID-19, provide updates on what they are facing in their clinics and hospitals, and participate in a Q and A. The goal of these web-based communications is to provide timely, critical, and science-practice-based information to those who are part of the global response to this pandemic and caring for COVID-19 patients.
