The Faculty for Social Wellbeing in collaboration with the Nationalist Party, the Labour Party and ADPD has organised the first in a series of training sessions to candidates of all three major parties contesting the forthcoming general election.
This is a first for any Faculty at the UM that is to provide training to candidates.
The first group of candidates, 20 in all, were given a session by the Dean, Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, called, 'Il-komunitajiet tagħna - post fejn il-bniedem jisseddaq’ (Our communities: A place where people find comfort and are able to grow).
At the beginning of the 1 and half hour session, Dr Ramona Attard, President of PL, commended the Faculty and the Dean, Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, for this initiative stating that this is the value added of a Faculty, that of reaching out to the community.
Dr Francis Zammit Dimech, Secretary General of the Nationalist Party whilst also commending the Faculty and the Dean focused his introductory speech on stating that candidates need to keep getting all the possible training to ensure they are well-prepared to serve their constituents.
The Chairperson of ADPD, Perit Carmel Cacopardo once again stated that this is important contribution that the Faculty for Social Wellbeing is given but also said that it is important that we keep in touch with our communities and the effectiveness of politicians is in that they are non-partisan and ready to serve before anything else.
It is expected that another workshop will be offered to party candidates in July and September.
