The 8th edition of the International bi-annual conference on Qualitative Research In Mental Health was held virtually on September 9 to 11, 2021. It was chaired by Prof. Angela Abela from the University of Malta and Prof. Maria Borcsa from the University of Applied Sciences Nordhausen, Germany. The conference welcomed contributors from all over the world, and strong international interest from a diversity of backgrounds, including service users, health and social care professionals, social scientists and health policy makers, and created a space for lively and enriching discussions. Keynote speakers included University of Malta Lecturer, Daniela DeBono, Stefan Priebe (University of London, United Kingdom and William (Bill) Randall (St. Thomas University, Canada) also contributed their knowledge during the conference.
This year, the conference presented a number of workshops addressing qualitative research, symposia, papers and posters on a wide range of issues from social scientists of different academic disciplines. This attested to the increasing importance of qualitative research in mental health. The speakers came from different backgrounds, including psychiatry, psychology, gerontology and anthropology. The conference adopts a human rights based philosophy highlighting the right for support and care, the right to dignity and freedom, and the rights of vulnerable populations including those who are fleeing from conflict and war.
The Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Health, Mr Chris Fearne and the University Rector, Prof. Alfred Vella welcomed all those participating in the conference. For more details visit QRMH8 website.
