The first meeting of the management committee of EPI-CATCH (EPIgenetic mechanisms of Crop Adaptation To Climate cHange), a COST action (CA19125) was held at the UM’s Valletta Campus on 28 and 29 September, 2021. This meeting took place in hybrid format.
Leading European plant epi-geneticists attended the meeting physically while members from a total of 27 other countries, from both the EU and associated countries followed the meeting online.
This COST action is chaired by Professor Federico Martinelli from the University of Florence. The meeting was also physically attended by Professor Ueli Grossniklaus from the University of Zurich, Professor Stefano Castiglione from the University of Salerno and Professor Valya Vassileva, Vice Director of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and other international scientists.
The management committee meeting was followed by a scientific meeting, where the academics presented and discussed their latest research in crop epigenetic studies with the target of establishing collaborative groups.
Dorita Galea Agius, a PhD student from the Centre of Molecular Medicine and Biobanking, helped organise and manage this meeting. Ms Galea also acts as a member of the core group of this action. During the scientific meeting she presented her research proposal entitled ‘The heritable epigenome of the endemic Maltese Limonium spp.’
Ms Galea is also a member of the teaching staff of the Junior College.
