The Institute for European Studies recently held its annual 'Europe Day' Quiz Night at Is-Suq Tal-Belt in Valletta. Held annually since 2017, the event had been on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic but returned this year with a full house, hosting over 100 students. The event, to mark 9 May, Europe Day, covered a range of European themes, including questions on the EU, European sports and Eurovision.
The event was generously supported by the European Commission's Representation to Malta who financed the event. Prizes were given by a range of sponsors including the European Parliament's Office to Malta and others. The winning teams were 'The Council', 'I thought this was speed dating' 'never gonna give EU up', 'Been here done that in 2018' with 'Democratic People's Republic of Hamrun' declared as the overall winner.
The event was opened by Prof. Mark Harwood, Director of the Institute, and the event was compered by Ronald Briffa, an alumnus of the Institute. As part of Europe Day (9 May) on the Quad, the Institute also helped support the European Studies Organisation's Stand as well as JEF's Vino e Vino event.
