The Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta awarded the Dean’s List certificate to eleven of its students. Bank of Valletta renewed its sponsorship to the Dean’s List at the Faculty of Arts within the University of Malta.

The Dean’s List award is presented to the students who achieve A grades in at least 80 credits during the first two years of their course. Bank of Valletta is the sole sponsor of this academic award.

This year, the students who have made it to the Dean’s List were:

• Ms Kylie Aquilina (B.A. Honours Fine Arts)
• Ms Marie Claire Aquilina (B.A. Honours Oriental Studies (Chinese)
• Ms Maureen Borg (B.A. Honours Maltese)
• Ms Beatriz Brunelli Zimmermann (B.A. Honours International Relations)
• Mr Nikos Chircop (B.A. Honours International Relations)
• Mr Andrew Debono Cauchi (B.A. Honours Classics)
• Ms Mattea Demarco (B.A. Honours Maltese)
• Mr Joel Grima (B.A. Honours Archaeology)
• Ms Rebecca Elizabeth Kemp (B.A. Honours Archaeology)
• Mr Lawson Mallia Wakefield (B.A. Philosophy and Psychology)

Congratulating the students, the Dean, Professor Dominic Fenech, explained how the demanding criteria meant that only truly outstanding students could make it into the list, pointing out that this was the best certificate of outstanding achievement an undergraduate could aspire for. He noted that the growing number of successful undergraduates was evidence of rising standards among Faculty of Arts students, and that it was higher these years than in earlier years when the criteria for qualifying were much less strict. He observed also that the listed students came from different parts of Malta, including those areas which one does not usually associate with high university enrolment. 

The students were also addressed by Mr Charles Azzopardi, representative of the Bank of Valletta, which has been sponsoring the event since it started twenty-nine years earlier.  He stressed that he represented an institution that actively believes in the importance of investing in education and promotes continuous learning among its people, adding that quality education was one of the main UN sustainable development goals that Bank of Valletta is committed to through its Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) ambitions.
