The University of Malta hosted Aleksander Moisiu University Durres’s (AMUD) Rector and academics from the Faculty of Education and Law on Friday 18 November 2022. The purpose of the visit was to explore possibilities of cooperation between the University of Malta (UM) and AMUD.
The visit included meetings with the UM’s International Office, the Faculty of Education, the Research Support Services Directorate (RSSD), the Pro Rector for International Development & Quality Assurance and the Doctoral School. The international dimension of the UM was presented by the Director of the International Office, Ms Stefania Agius Fabri. Possible collaboration with the Faculty of Education was discussed with Dr Michelle Attard Tonna, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education whilst Dr Christian Bonnici, Director, RSSD presented the projects the UM is involved in whilst discussed potential partnering with AMUD in programmes such as Horizon Europe and COST.
Prof. Frank Bezzina, Pro Rector for International Development & Quality Assurance discussed the work being done by the UM on an international level such as strengthening the student and staff internationalistion policy as well as attracting a high percentage of international students at the university. Prof Nicholas Vella presented the Doctoral School, explained its structure and mission and the activities it organises for the benefit of doctoral students.
The final meeting was held with the Rector of the UM during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish a collaborative relationship between the two institutions, especially to develop academic and research cooperation whilst promoting mutual understanding. This MoU is the first agreement the UM has signed with an Albanian institution.
