The Centre for Labour Studies had the pleasure of hosting the Minister for Public Works and Planning, who is responsible for the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), Hon Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, for a session entitled 'Occupational Health and Safety in Malta: The Way Forward'.
The session consisted of a candid discussion between the Minister and students reading for a Bachelor in Occupational Health and Safety (Hons). Topics discussed included the regulation and management of specific sectors such as construction, the growth and regulation of the profession of health and safety in Malta, and emerging issues such as mental health at work.
The Centre for Labour Studies has been offering graduate programs in occupational health and safety for 25 years. Subsequently, many of the competent individuals who work in the sector are graduates of one of the Centre’s programs. Currently the Centre offers a part-time evening bachelor degree course in occupational health and safety.
The course, which is delivered by both academics and practitioners, takes a holistic approach to occupational health and safety and includes topics such as occupational safety, management, ergonomics, occupational health, psychology, environmental health, law, and health promotion, amongst others.
More information on the course can be obtained by the course’s coordinator, Dr Luke Fiorini.
