The Sixteenth International Conference on e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies was held at the University of Malta, Valletta campus, on the 13 and 14 April 2023, and chaired by the Head of the AI department, Faculty of ICT, Prof. Matthew Montebello.
The conference was coordinated together with Prof. William Cope and Prof. Mary Kalantzis from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The conference, that was founded in 2006, focusses on Online education and all those technologies that assist such a medium due to a common concern for new technologies in learning and an interest to explore possibilities for innovative pedagogies.
Participants sought to build an epistemic community where linkages across disciplinary geographic and cultural boundaries were made possible. Amongst the attendants from numerous countries was the Rector of the University of the Aegean, Prof Chryssi Vitsilaki, who established new research collaborations with AI department.
The research themes focused mainly on Smart Education 4.0 with a particular emphasis on empowering learners and educators. Contributions included a variety of digital pedagogies, new digital institutions and spaces, technologies of mediation, as well as, designing social transformations.
