Dr Ermira Tartari Bonnici, a lecturer from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Malta, recently embarked on an Erasmus+ ICM teaching mobility to the Faculty of Health and Nursing Sciences at Heimerer College, Kosovo.
This visit, which took place in May 2023, marked the second staff mobility facilitated by the Key Action 171 project, an inter-institutional agreement established between the two institutions for the period of 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2025.
The mobility involved a public lecture on healthcare system organisation in Malta, where the University of Malta with its rich history was introduced and also insights into the structure, mission, and activities of the Department of Nursing. Lectures with undergraduate and postgraduate students of Heimerer College, included topics such as healthcare-associated infections, infection prevention and control, and antimicrobial resistance.
Meetings with the Rector and Pro-rector for internationalisation and research of Heimerer College were held. These discussions revolved around research pursuits and areas of mutual interest. A joint virtual meeting was held with Prof. Colla MacDonald and Dr Maria Cassar, who have spearheaded successful digital education programs such as: Online Learning in Healthcare Industry (tovid.eu) and EU Digital Education Framework to explore possible future collaboration. Both institutions are keen on enhancing the partnership, particularly through joint research initiatives and projects centred around digital education technologies.
The Erasmus+ ICM mobility initiative has served as a stepping stone in nurturing the academic relationship between Malta and Kosovo, fostering international collaborations.
