All nine partner universities in the SEA-EU Alliance met in Gdansk to kick start actions relating to language. These are aligned under three streams: promoting multilingualism, mainstreaming competence and mastery of the English language, and adopting a language policy.
This task, with a 4-year timeline, is being led by University of Malta, and supported by University of Gdansk (UG). It follows from discussions that originated in SEA-EU's identity subcommittee, which had also been led by University of Malta.
In view of SEA-EU's outreach to Ukraine, academics from Odesa University also participated in the proceedings.
The event was successfully hosted by the Foreign Languages Centre (FLC) at UG. It was opened by UG Rector, Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, and FLC Director, Ms Alina Swebocka.
University of Malta was represented by Anna Baldacchino, Godfrey Baldacchino, Michael Spagnol and Odette Vassallo.
A staff week to train SEA-EU academics to fine tune their English language competences will be hosted at UM in May 2024, as part of this Task.
