The Faculty for Social Wellbeing understands the importance of healthy and positive self-affirmations. Feeling positive about your identity can boost self-esteem and provide others with positive role models - which is especially important for those who are still developing their sense of self. When these representations aren’t displayed, it sends that message that diverse identities are invisible, do not exist, and aren’t important.
In a continued effort to increase visibility of LGBT+ identities at UM, the Faculty for Social Wellbeing is asking alumni, students, staff and allies to contribute to its Visibility Campaign. The campaign is aimed at supporting a shift in social consciousness and making diverse sexual and gender identities more visible and represented. When there are diverse representations of LGBT+ identities, society is able to see more perspectives within the community and form inclusive and safe spaces.
