Today, on Monday 30 September 2024, the University of Malta is officially kicking off the new Academic Year 2024/2025, ushering in over 5,000 new students into its diverse learning community.
Over 2,650 students will be following undergraduate courses, while over 1,600 students will be reading for a postgraduate degree.
A further 360 Erasmus+ students will be joining the University, while another 390 Visiting students will be registered to follow Micro-credentials.
Over 1,000 new students will be joining Junior College, with the JC community reaching 1,900 students in total.
University Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella and KSU President, Mr Luke Bonanno, addressed the new student cohort during a well-attended Opening Ceremony at Sir Temi Zammit Hall.
Prof. Vella’s speech, underlined by this year's motto, 'Do not be afraid to state your mind', focused on the need to perceive the University experience as a journey of growth in not just age, but also knowledge and maturity.

Mr Bonanno’s address, on the other hand, carried the very important message to stand up and be counted. "Make the most of your University experience - the world we've long heard of but are just starting to experience. Do not just treat it as a means towards an end - it is a journey of growth."

International students
Approximately 1,600 international students representing 126 different countries will also be pursuing their studies at the University this year.
Total number of students
These bring the total number of students at the University of Malta for the Academic Year 2024/2025 to over 12,700 students following a total of 952 courses.

New Areas of Study in Undergraduate Courses
- Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism Management and

Lectures for continuing students commenced on Monday 23 September 2024, and lectures for Year 1 students will commence on 3 October 2024.
