The Department of Public Health has been running a successful biannual MSc in Public Health programme without fail for almost thirty years since 1995, attracting 106 graduates to date.
As teaching at the University moved online during the pandemic, Prof. Neville Calleja, Head of Department and course coordinator, responded to the appeal from HopeXchange to the University of Malta and reached out with a pilot project, offering two modules of the MSc in Public Health to five Ghanaian health professionals per module.
Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, ten health professionals benefitted from this pilot, completing their respective module successfully. Following these encouraging results, the Department, with the full support of the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery, ventured to offer the full Msc in Public Health programme to a small number of health professionals in Ghana. Further funding for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with support by the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation has facilitated the participation of three senior Ghanaian health professionals to join the programme.
