The Faculty of Theology and the Faculty for Social Wellbeing extended their congratulations to the third cohort of students who successfully completed the Certificate in Safeguarding of Children and Young People, as well as the inaugural cohort of students who completed the Toolkit for Youth Ministry, during an Awards Ceremony held on 22 November 2024 at Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi.

The event featured a keynote address by Mr Mark Pellicano, Head of the Safeguarding Commission, who spoke on the main standards of safeguarding in contemporary society. Ms Giselle Cassar delivered an Oration on behalf of the graduating students, reflecting on the learning journey and its impact.

The ceremony was also addressed by Rev. Prof. Stefan Attard, Dean of the Faculty of Theology, and Dr Sandra Scicluna, Dean of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing. Both deans presented certificates to the graduates. Rev. Prof. Carl-Mario Sultana, coordinator of the Toolkit programme, was also present. The evening was further enriched by musical interludes performed by Ms Alessia Bonnici.

The event was coordinated by Rev. Dr Kevin Schembri, coordinator of the Certificate in Safeguarding of Children and Young People, with the support of the administrative staff of the Faculty of Theology.

In their continued commitment to safeguarding education, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, in collaboration with the Safeguarding Commission, are currently developing a new postgraduate programme in the Safeguarding of Minors and Vulnerable Adults.

This initiative aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote the welfare of vulnerable individuals, understand the deep impact of abuse, and respond effectively within ethical and legal frameworks across various contexts.
