On Friday, 11 April 2025, the University of Malta’s School of Performing Arts brought energy, creativity, and empathy to St Nicholas College – Wardija Resource Centre, as part of an inspiring outreach initiative titled Collectively for Others.
The event saw a group of university students engaging with special needs learners aged 16 and over, through dynamic performances in music, dance, and theatre held in and around the school grounds.
This initiative was more than just a performance—it was a meaningful exchange. The aim was twofold: to entertain and educate students with diverse abilities who are navigating the important life transition from a school environment to the world of employment, and to demonstrate the unifying power of the performing arts. Through creative expression, the performers bridged differences and created moments of connection and joy.
Throughout the day, students at the Centre were invited to participate in movement sessions, interpretive dance, and storytelling through theatre, making the experience highly interactive and inclusive. The activities were thoughtfully designed to engage and empower the audience, fostering self-expression, confidence, and social interaction in a supportive environment.
The response was overwhelmingly positive. Many of the students were visibly curious and enthusiastic, actively joining in the sessions and expressing themselves in their own unique ways. It was a celebration of inclusion, creativity, and community spirit—reminding all involved that the arts have the power to reach across boundaries and touch lives.
Collectively for Others is part of a wider commitment by the School of Performing Arts to promote social engagement and accessibility through artistic outreach. Events like these not only enrich the learning journey of performing arts students but also bring valuable cultural and emotional experiences to those outside the traditional classroom.
