On Friday 25 April, Prof. Norbert Bugeja delivered the keynote address at the 10th International Conference on the Humanities held at the Université de Jendouba’s Higher Institute of Applied Languages and Computer Science in Bèja, Tunisia. Titled ‘Undulations of a Memory in Crisis—Mediterranean Fragments’, Prof. Bugeja’s presentation opened up a dialectics of reading across trans-national sites of memory, and touched upon his own research and creative-writing processes at various locations across the Mediterranean.
On Friday 25 April, Prof. Norbert Bugeja delivered the keynote address at the 10th International Conference on the Humanities held at the Université de Jendouba’s Higher Institute of Applied Languages and Computer Science in Bèja, Tunisia. Titled ‘Undulations of a Memory in Crisis—Mediterranean Fragments’, Prof. Bugeja’s presentation opened up a dialectics of reading across trans-national sites of memory, and touched upon his own research and creative-writing processes at various locations across the Mediterranean.
Earlier in the week, Prof. Bugeja participated at the Université de la Manouba’s ‘Écrivains Siciliens de Tunisie d’Expression Francaise’ International Conference, held at the Académie Tunisienne and organised by the Chaire Sicile at La Manouba's Faculty of Arts, Letters and Humanities. In the course of his academic visit, Prof. Bugeja held discussion sessions on various aspects of Mediterranean Studies research with doctoral and Masters candidates at the university, as well as meetings with members of the Faculty and other international scholars and writers, in view of forthcoming collaborations within the framework of the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Malta’s Mediterranean Institute and La Manouba’s Faculty of Arts, Letters and Humanities.
The Université de La Manouba is a major public university in Tunisia and one of the most important hubs of scholarly and higher-educational activity on the southern Mediterranean littoral. Prof. Bugeja’s visit to the Universitè de La Manouba was possible thanks to the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Fund.
Prof. Bugeja is a member of the Department of English and Director of the Mediterranean Institute.
