Dr Rose Marie Azzopardi [Dip. Public Administration (Melit.), B.A. Economics and Social Studies (Melit.), M.A. European Studies (Sussex), Ph.D. Economics (Sussex)] has been appointed Director on the Board of the Malta Development Bank, for a period of five years. The aim of the Malta Development Bank is to “support entrepreneurship, and socio-economic development in Malta by providing promotional investment and financing, financial and advisory services, and by issuing securities or otherwise raising funds.”
Dr Azzopardi lectures International Economics, Economic Research Methods, Economics of Innovation, Creativity and Knowledge, and European Monetary Union.
Her research interests focus on several international economics topics, including economic integration, small states perspectives, migration, economic development strategies and innovation. In recent years the focus has been on females in the labour market and issues of gender equality in the economy and society.
She has presented papers at global conferences and published in several international journals and carried out research and participated in several EU programmes and projects. She has done consultancy work with the Government of Malta, the United Nations, the World Bank, European Union Institutions and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Dr Azzopardi was a member on the Advisory Council of ISISA (International Small Islands Studies Association) 2010-2016. Dr Azzopardi was Advisor on economic development to the Government of Malta, 2015-2017. Currently she is a member of the Cluster on Migration Studies at the University of Malta and also a member of the Retail Price Index Advisory Board.
