On 16 February, the Department of Public Policy hosted a European Commission (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC) workshop titled the “The Future of Government 2030+”. The aim of the Workshop was to understand today's relationships between individuals and government in the areas of political decision making processes and public service provision, and to generate ideas on how the future in 2030+ might look like.
The Workshop took a citizen centric perspective on new government models and was attended by 20 participants representing different roles and segments of society. The workshop identified issues of concern, mapping them today and what they may look like in the future i.e. beyond 2030+. A number of priorities were identified as to what the Government should be focusing on in the future.
The JRC held workshops in five other EU Member States: Austria, Ireland, Poland, Spain and Sweden. Together with the results from all these workshops, the goal is to create scenarios that describe the world in which we will be living and interacting with governments.
The event was coordinated by Dr Anne Marie Thake, Head of Department, and Dr George Vital Zammit from the Department of Public Policy.
