Between 14 and 16 March, Dr Charles Farrugia, participated in the 4th ICARUS and EURBICA Conference 'European archival landscape: Reaching out for new horizons' at Trogir, Split, Croatia, where he presented a paper entitled 'MEMORJA: Archivists as Creators of Records’.
During his presentation Dr Farrugia explained the MEMORJA project spearheaded by the National Archives of Malta. He discussed how such a project is turning archivists away from the traditional Jenkinsonian passive approach into active agents shaping the memory capturing process. Selected interviews from the various research themes of the oral and audio-visual project were discussed in view of the challenges these items pose to archivists in terms of metadata creation, long term preservation and the impact on the research community.
Dr Charles Farrugia is visiting lecturer within the Department of Library, Information and Archive Sciences, Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.
