Prof. David C. Magri of the Department of Chemistry and Dr Claire Shoemake of the Department of Pharmacy represented Malta at the 2nd Work Group Meeting - MuTaLig COST Action. The conference was held from 15 to 16 March 2018 at the Instituto Universitario de Bio-Orgánica at the Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The conference was attended by over 100 participants representing 22 countries.
Prof. Magri gave a presentation entitled 'Naphthalimide Molecular Logic Gates as Fluorescence Cellular Imaging and Anticancer Agents' while Dr Shoemake presented a poster with Claire Ellul entitled 'Design of Novel Compounds with the Potential of Dual PPARγ/α Modulation for the Management of Metabolic Syndrome'.
The aim of the COST Action is to bring European research teams working in areas associated with medicinal chemistry into a research network devoted to the design and discovery of multi-targeted drugs. A current research theme is the development of drugs capability of interacting selectively with two or more macromolecular targets that exert a positive therapeutic effect in a synergic fashion.
