The first ever peer-assisted research study, focused on Interprofessional Learning between Medical and Physiotherapy Students at the University of Malta, was recently awarded the first prize at the MMSA Research Conference on 7 April, 2018.
Christopher Mifsud, Lara Borg, Juliet Camilleri, Luke Gatt and Arion Pepas under the supervision of Professor Isabel Stabile investigated the impact of an interprofessional anatomy education programme on students' perception of each others fields of study. Physiotherapy students who received dissection demonstrations from medical students improved their concepts of Teamwork, Collaboration and Positive Professional Identity.
The integration of Interprofessional Learning into the curricula of health faculties at the University of Malta is of mutual benefit at little or no additional cost, ultimately benefitting future patients.
