Over this first semester, the Faculty of Engineering hosted 497 secondary school students from St Monica (Gzira), St Monica (B’kara), St Michael School, St Benedict College, St Ignatius College, St Nicholas College and St Thomas More College. These students participated in the Engineering Technology Clubs which are held every Wednesday at the Faculty of Engineering as part of the faculty’s initiative to increase awareness of the role of engineers in society.
Through hands-on workshops, students learn how to programme robots, use electronics to create rain alarms, discover why airplane windows are round, see the unseeable, find out how much energy is needed to create electricity and learn about different manufacturing processes.
The workshops are followed by a talk which explains the different roles of engineers, job opportunities and the entry requirements for the engineering degree course.
The Engineering Technology Clubs are supported by the Malta Chamber of Engineers.
