The Toulouse Institute of Computer Science Research (IRIT), Université Paul Sabatier (UPS) has invited Dr Joseph Vella, academic at the Department of Computer Information Systems, University of Malta to present his database management research work during a seminar on Scaling OLTP throughput over data centres. This seminar addressed the quantitative demands on distributed databases deployed in data centres around the world.
Dr Joseph G. Vella, leads the research group on data management, integration and effective performance in Cloud infrastructures, with a vibrant involvement in research funded by the EU and MCST. This research group has also won awards for their projects and actively collaborates with industry and public sectors on developing informatics and data driven systems.
IRIT also invited Dr. Vella’s to deliver two additional presentations on: Aggressive optimisation of data mining queries over time series databases; and The development and enhancement of computer information systems through the uptake of spatial data and corresponding spatial operations in their processes. These activities were well attended and offered an opportunity for exchange of ideas on how to properly respond to the foreseeable trends in optimising data management and data analytics activities. The IRIT, with over 240 registered PhDs and 250 research staff, has an internationally recognised profile in Computer Science research.
