A graduation ceremony was held on 28 March 2019, at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, for students who successfully completed the Certificate for Graduates of non-EU/EEA Nursing programme.
The aim of this certificate programme is to address the gaps between the undergraduate training of nurses qualified in non-EU/EEA countries and the requirements for nurse training stipulated by EU regulations. Through a combination of study-units, the programme is adjusted to meet the needs of different applicants, after an evaluation of each applicant's qualifications. The programme is divided equally between a theoretical component and a clinical placement, which run concurrently.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr Maria Cassar, Head of Department of Nursing and Prof. Joseph Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, addressed the students. They were followed by two student representatives — Ms Anumol Wilson and Ms Joseline James — who shared their personal insights regarding their experience in the programme. Students were then presented with the certificates. Also present were various members of the Faculty of Health Sciences who have lectured or supervised the students over the past months, members of the administrative staff, a representative of the Indian High Commission in Malta, mentors, relatives and friends of the students. Dr Michelle Camilleri, who has taught on the programme, served as Master of Ceremonies.
Applications for this programme for academic year 2019/20 are currently open; only few available places remain and interested students are therefore encouraged to submit their applications, as soon as possible.
