The Office for Human Resources Management & Development, in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar, organised the third edition of the Training & Development Awards Ceremony. This event was held on Friday 29 March at 12:15 at the Faculty of Information & Communication Technology Auditorium and attracted over 200 participants.
This event was organised for members of staff who have attended sessions or courses pertaining to the Training and Development Programme in 2018. Trainers who have delivered sessions or courses and members of staff who have contributed to this programme were also invited to attend the event.
The University has also extended this invitation to external training providers that provide their expertise for the Training and Development Programme at the University, which includes Richmond Foundation, Specto Ltd, St John Ambulance, and Sedqa. Mr Dragan Donkov the Manager of the Employment, Training and Organisation Support Unit within Richmond Foundation, Ms Josianne Azzopardi the Senior Prevention Executive of Prevention Services at Sedqa and Mr Jareth Grima the Leader of Prevention Services at Sedqa were present as special guests for this event.
The event started off with an introductory speech by the Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach, Professor Carmen Sammut. She gave a broad overview of the training initiatives that are being offered in staff and student wellbeing and how these tie in with the services offered by the Health and Wellness Centre.
The Director for Human Resources Management & Development, Ms Jacqueline Fenech, gave a brief overview of the main strategic training goals. She delivered a detailed presentation regarding the development of a training culture at UM and outlined the main areas of training that are currently being offered. She also highlighted the efforts in creating a dedicated training website which has been rebranded and the release of the first issue of the Training & Development Programme for 2019 booklet.
Members of staff who had attended training and development programme in 2018 were presented with a certificate while trainers and members of staff who contributed to this programme were given a token of appreciation by Professor Sammut.
Following the ceremony, refreshments were served, giving members of staff the opportunity to socialise in an informal environment and create a sense of community.
