A new full-time course is being offered by the Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Starting in October 2019, spreading over 4 semesters (2 years).
The course envisages to attract individuals with a food and nutrition undergraduate background, specifically those interested in obesity, overall health and chronic disease prevention.As a graduate you will gain the ability to apply all academic and research skills to the nutritionists profession in a wide range of settings. One will also be able to register locally with the Council of Professions Complementary to Medicine on successful completion of their studies.
Fundamental nutritional science will underpin contemporary nutrition in public health at the local, national and international level. Topical subjects ranging from metabolic studies, nutritional epidemiology, dietary assessment to nutrition for chronic disease prevention and nutrition policy make up the course programme.
The programme delivery is of a varied nature made up of local experts, international guest lecturers. This graduate course intents to intertwine theoretical based learning, practical sessions and placements in a variety of settings with the outcome of graduating with a varied skill-set in the area. In the second year, one will work on a research project enabling students to utilise and apply the skills acquired throughout their studies.
