Doctoral candidates, alumni and academics from the Faculty of Theology participated and presented papers at the International Congress of the European Society of Catholic Theology, held in Bratislava, Slovakia, between 28 and 31 August 2019. More than 200 scholars and theologians from all over Europe participated at the event which marked the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Society.
The theme of the Congress was 'Hope. Where does our Hope Lie?'. Dr Pauline Dimech, resident lecturer at the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law, delivered a paper titled 'Hans Urs von Balthasar on Hope: Salvation, Hell and Women Mystics'. Dr Tyrone Grima gave a presentation on 'Simone Weil: A Spirituality that Defies Hope?', while doctoral candidates Ms Dorianne Buttigieg and Ms Nikki Felice presented papers on 'The Threshold of Hope' and 'The Longing for Restoration in C.S. Lewis' The Weight of Glory', respectively.
The Faculty of Theology was also represented by the Dean, Rev. Dr John Berry, Bishop Joseph Galea Curmi and Rev. Dr Kevin Schembri from the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law, and Mgr Prof. George Grima from the Department of Moral Theology.
