The UM's Office for Human Resources Management & Development organised the second edition of Orientation Day for Academics, which was held on Thursday 16 January 2020 at the Valletta Campus. The first edition of this event was held on 19 October 2018.
This event is designed to provide new academics with an overview of the University's rich history, mission and culture, while offering the employees the prospect of establishing relationships and networks with new peers. Information regarding the key offices within Administration was provided to the 34 participants in attendance.
The event commenced with a welcome session addressed by the Rectorate, including the Rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella and the Pro-Rectors, Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, Professor Joseph M. Cacciottolo, Professor Carmen Sammut and Professor Tanya Sammut-Bonnici. The Rector commenced this event by outlining the vision of the University and the efforts undertaken to achieve the main aims from a short-term, medium-term and long-term perspectives and by highlighting the role of academic staff in achieving the University’s vision. The Pro-Rectors provided a brief outline by explaining their respective academic portfolio and remit.
Attendants were also treated to talks about the governance of the University, the multitude of services provided by the administrative directorates and other topics relevant to academic administration.
