On Wednesday 14 October 2020, Rev. Dr Carl Mario Sultana, Head of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law, addressed the meeting of the Catechesis Section of the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) on the new Universal Directory for Catechesis.
27 bishops and national directors responsible for the catechesis of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe, met online to reflect on the effects and challenges that the new Directory will bring to pastoral realities throughout Europe.
During the second working session, Rev. Dr Sultana offered a pastoral reading of the new Catechesis Directory, elaborating on six key themes:
- Evangelii Gaudium as the firm foundation of the Directory;
- Kerygmatic catechesis;
- The catechumenate;
- The human being in the contemporary social and cultural context – the digital culture;
- Mystagogy;
- The way of beauty – via pulchritudinis.
Dr Sultana is the Secretary of the CCEE Catechesis Section. The online meeting was also addressed by the Head of the CCEE Catechesis Section, Archbishop Đuro Hranić, the President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, and CCEE President, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco.
