The H2020 CIVITAS DESTINATIONS Project, which the University of Malta is a partner in through its Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, has recently won awards in two international events.
Two CIVITAS Awards went to two islands, namely Funchal and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, during the Urban Mobility Days 2020 held in Brussels earlier this year.
Both islands are partners in the DESTINATIONS Project implementing sustainable mobility measures to support travel and tourism. And more recently, DESTINATIONS was the winner of the Greening the Islands e-Convention 2020 Sustainable Mobility Award.
Professor Maria Attard is the Principal Investigator at UM and the Local Evaluation Manager for the Malta site.
She has collaborated with Transport Malta, Ministry for Tourism and the Valletta Local Council to introduce sustainable mobility measures for locals and tourists in the Valletta Region.
The project has also supported two doctoral students at UM - Ms Suzanne Maas, supervised by Prof. Maria Attard and Prof. Loukas Dimitriou (University of Cyprus) and Mr Mark Bugeja, supervised by Prof. Alexiei Dingli, Prof. Maria Attard and Mr Dylan Seychell.
More information about the DESTINATIONS Project and the research outputs from the project can be found on the ICCSD website.
