A group of university students currently studying to get their degree in various areas, namely English, French, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, Tourism Studies, Communication Studies, and International Relations are letting their rising theatrical talent shine by putting up a comedy show for fellow students.
They form part of the Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre (TMYT), a youth theatre group which nurtures young artists through training and performance opportunities. Different students are chosen each year and are under a contract for that year – this is done to ensure that as many students as possible get to avail of this opportunity.
Kristen Abela, Clara Xuereb, André Buhagiar, Annika Cachia, Daniel Hintner, Marelaine Formosa, Martha Maria Mangani, Alexia Manduca, Stephen Grech, and Greta Grech are taking on many roles in this production.
Besides acting, they are helping with script writing, costume design, marketing and stage managing.
“These roles help us appreciate the offstage work that goes on when putting up a performance and offers us a chance to find other areas we are interested in in the Theatrical field”, Kristen Abela told Newspoint.
Their first production this year is called Pjazza Pastizzi, a devised comedy production directed by Michael Richardson, and will feature plenty of references to Maltese culture.
Six shows are being held on 19, 20 and 21 March at the Manoel Theatre. Tickets are €15 each and offered at a discounted price of €10 for students.
