Seven current physiotherapy students within the Department of Physiotherapy in the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as one recent graduate, have been elected to the Malta Association of Physiotherapists (MAP) Future Network. This subgroup of the MAP represents both students and early career professionals. Originally launched in 2015, this group aims to enhance the connections between physiotherapy students and the physiotherapy profession both locally and internationally. The MAP is the sole organisation that represents the physiotherapy profession in Malta with close ties to World Physiotherapy and the Europe Region of World Physiotherapy.
Dr Stephen Lungaro-Mifsud, the Head of Department, and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, commented that the involvement of a group of persons directly connected to the University goes to show how committed the Department is to ensure that the links with the community of professionals is active and healthy, and that this augurs well for the future of the individuals involved as well as the profession.
Dr John Xerri de Caro, a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Physiotherapy, and a Board Director on World Physiotherapy commented that this is a great opportunity for students as well as young professionals to get involved in the wider dimensions of the profession, seeking to take ownership of the development and advocacy of the profession.

The MAP Future Network is composed of Joel Dimech (3rd year student), Emily Abela, Alexander Polidano, and Roderick Schembri (2nd year students), Christina Simic, Erika Mallia and Miguel Musu (1st year students) and Martin Attard (2021 graduate).
