The first Open Science virtual lecture was held as part of the reSEArch-EU project. This event was chaired by Dr Fiona Sammut, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science and presented by Dr Ritienne Gauci, Academic at the Department of Geography. Mr Juan Ramón Real Buhigas also complemented the session by introducing the participants to reSEArch-EU.
Dr Gauci led a fascinating lecture on open science theory and practice shared throughout the SEA-EU network. A recording of this is now available on the SEA-EU YouTube Channel.
One of the reSEArch-EU project aims to create a network of interoperable data repositories within the member universities. This would serve as a basis for further Open Science initiatives, which will ultimately benefit the economy, society, the environment and citizens’ quality of life. To this end, reSEArch-EU has set up a team of Open Research Data Officers and Open Science Ambassadors, whose task is to engage the member universities’ research community in discussions about Open Science. Five of our colleagues at the University of Malta are involved in this Activity – Mr Kevin Ellul, Director of the Library, nominated as an Open Research Data Officer, while Dr Ritienne Gauci, Dr Adam Gauci, Academic at the Department of Geosciences, Ms Raelene Galea, Manager, Acquisitions Department at Library and Ms Audrey Zammit, Scientific Officer were nominated as SEA-EU Open Science Ambassadors.
