Research ethics: information letters and consent forms for adults with language impairments
Research participants have the right to information prior to giving consent. Researchers who intend to collect data from participants with possible expressive and/or receptive language or communication impairments, as in the case of stroke-induced aphasia, should use aphasia-friendly information letters and consent forms.
Maltese and English templates of such information letters and consent forms are now available, courtesy of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR, UK).
These forms may be found on the Faculty of Health Sciences website under Research Ethics atwww.um.edu.mt/healthsciences/resources. This material may also be useful for any research participant who is unable to read written text.

These templates are not intended to be used in their entirety, but they may be amended/adapted to suit the particular research methodology.
