Special Collections news
The UM Library has recently received a small portrait in oils of the late art historian Dr Edward Sammut (1912-1984) executed in 1952 by his friend Maltese artist Willie Apap (1918-1970).
By means of a few swift brushstrokes laid on with brush and thumb and with clever use made of the priming of the canvas to add depth, the artist captures an excellent likeness of the sitter, which is both fresh in execution and insightful.
