The National Hellenic Research Foundation has three research institutes, namely the Institute of
Historical Research, the Institute of Biology, Medical Chemistry and Biotechnology, and the Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry. The National Documentation Center is also part of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. It is the backbone organisation of the national infrastructure for scientific documentation, online information and support services on science, research and technology.
The Institute of Historical Research conducts research on the political, economic, social and cultural history of the Greek areas and the regions where Hellenism has been active, from prehistoric antiquity to the modern era. The Institute of Biology, Medical Chemistry and Biotechnology acts as a focal point, unique within Greece, for innovation at the interface of Chemistry and Biology through a modern interdisciplinary approach to the solution of state-of-the-art issues in the areas of health, drug research and biotechnology. The Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry advances research in selected fields of experimental and computational/theoretical chemistry and physics, with emphasis on nanomaterials with advanced functionality for energy conversion and storage, photonics, and electrochemical applications.
The NHRF welcomes project proposals relevant to the following panels: Life Sciences (LIF), Chemistry (CHE), Physics (PHY), Social Sciences and Humanities (SOC), Economic Sciences (ECO), Information Science and Engineering (ENG), Environment and Geosciences (ENV), Mathematics (MAT).
