Summer School in High Throughput Sequencing Bioinformatics
A 1-week Summer School on Bioinformatics for High Throughput Sequencing will be held between 12 and 16 September 2016. The summer school will be held in the Informatics Lab, Faculty of ICT, University of Malta, and will be open to all University of Malta faculty and research staff as well as postgraduate students. This event is being sponsored by the HORIZON 2020 TWINNING Project TrainMALTA in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, UK.
The Summer school will cover basic concepts and skills related to handling High Throughput Sequencing data. Participants will have the opportunity to be trained by our collaborators from the University of Cambridge.
The programme includes the following:
- An introduction to Unix/Linux
- Experimental design, statistical concepts and quality control
- Whole Genome Sequence alignment
- Variant calling, annotation and interpretation (variant prioritization)
- Analysis of RNASeq data
- Approaches to integrative
[R]efresh: an introductory course to R
The Summer School will be complemented by a Refresher course in R which will be held between 31 August and 2 September 2016.[R]efresh is an introductory course to R designed for individuals with no prior programming experience. R is a tool that is widely used in data analysis contexts in various fields, including the life sciences. This course will cover R essentials, such as R syntax and data structures, how to manipulate data in R, perform basic data analysis and create plots.
Booking for this course is through the Summer School booking form. Preference will be given to Summer School attendees.
Introduction to Genetics for IT scientists
A half-day introductory course to Genetics will be held on 9 September 2016. This course is aimed at IT scientists who are interested in attending the Summer School but have minimal knowledge of Biology and Genetics.Booking for this course is through the Summer School booking form. Preference will be given to Summer School attendees.
More information and the schedule will be available on the TrainMALTA website.
