The Government of Japan is offering two-year scholarships to Maltese graduate students who wish to study at Japanese Universities as research students under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for the academic years 2019-2021 (April 2019 - March 2021), in various subjects within the field of Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Subjects must be one of those available at Japanese Universities. One copy of the explanatory note, the application form, the application attachment, the field of study and study program, the recommendation form and the certificate of health are needed. This documentation is available for download by the candidates.
Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language, interested in Japan and enthusiastic about deepening his/her understanding of Japan after arriving and capable of engaging in study and research while adapting himself/herself to life in Japan. Applicants are also required to contact a professor of the Japanese university where they wish to study and obtain a letter of acceptance.

All the applications should be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in Italy, with all the requested documents. A copy of all documentation must be submitted by hand or by registered post or online to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Malta.
The Embassy of Japan will select preliminary candidates among applicants by means of a review of the submitted documents, an interview and a written examination in English or Japanese language which will take place in Malta.
The deadline to submit all documentation is by not later than noon of Friday 22 June 2018.
Applications from Government and Parastatal employees and from the Private Sector will not be considered unless recommended by their Head of Department/Employer respectively.
Late applications will not be considered.
