Dear Student,
Are you a young film maker aged 16-30? The fifth edition of the Malta Youth Film Festival has been launched.
Those interested in participating should develop and produce a short film, not longer than 10 minutes. The festival is open to all film genres including animation, drama, thriller, music video, documentary and others.
Films submitted for this festival will be first shortlisted and then judged as per criteria below:
- storytelling quality
- technical direction
- creativity and originality of concept
- acting skills
- audience engagement
There are 7 awards to be given out to the young film makers as part of this festival:
1. Best script
2. Best direction
3. Most original concept
4. Best actor
5. Best cinematography
6. Public choice award
7. Best picture
Calls for submissions by young film makers will be open until 28 March 2022. The MYFF 2022 guidelines provide more information on how to apply.
The winner of the Best Picture Award are awarded a 500 euro cash prize and the opportunity to participate in the Norwegian Youth Film Festival which is held in Tromso, Norway.

The Malta Youth Film Festival aims to create a space which encourages and rewards the initiative of local young film makers aged 16-30. It forms part of the National Youth Policy
strategy of cross-sectoral supports for the engagement of young people in the arts and culture. The festival is a collaboration of Agenzija Zghazagh with the Malta Film Foundation.
