A Call is being published for the provision of part-time expert services in the field of Local Knowledge surveys (LEK) study, for a maximum duration of 8 weeks, within the ambit of the Interreg Italia-Malta 2014-2020 SenHAR project.
- Applications are invited for an external expert to work on SenHAR (Campagne di sensibilizzazione per un’armonizzazione Italo-Maltese per un buono stato dell’ambiente), a project financed by the InterregV-A Programme in which the Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta is a partner with Universita’ degli Studi di Palermo (www.senhar-italiamalta.eu).
- Raising awareness campaigns organized within the project will engage specific target group and final users in order to test their knowledge regarding protected marine Mediterranean habitats and the impact they might have of them. In particular this call, aims to interview the target group of fishermen on the habitats they came across during their fishing activities, such as Posidonia oceanica meadow and maerl beds
- The research topic will be related with the deployment of questionnaires developed by the SenHAR partners and provided by the University of Malta. As previously mentioned the target of the questionnaires will be 20 fishers that will be face-to-face interviewed. The selected candidate will be responsible to transfer the results of the interviews to Excel spreadsheets template and to be delivered to Prof. Alan Deidun.
- The awardee will work mostly in specific sites of Marsaxlokk, St Paul’s Bay, Gnejna and Mgarr (Gozo) and eventually in the laboratory facilities of the Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta (Msida). Moreover, he will be required to coordinate and team-work with the awardee of other call with similar topic.
- The ideal candidate needs to have at least a first degree in Biology or a related discipline, as well as a post doc (e.g. Masters or PhD level) degree in a field relevant to marine biology. The same candidate needs to be fluent in Maltese and English and having previous experience with approaching local fishermen will be considered an asset.
- Additionally, a previous participation in EU-funded research projects, especially Interreg Italia-Malta 2014-2020 ones, will be positively assessed.
- The awardee needs to be in possession of his own transport and the fuel will not be reimbursed.
- The engagement will last for a maximum of eight (8) weeks from receipt of appointment letter, over the period April-May 2022, with the selected candidate expected to invest a minimum of 10 logged hours per week over the same period (8 weeks). The candidate needs to log the hours spent within the University of Malta’s laboratories on a monthly basis within time-sheet templates provided by the University of Malta. Payment will be transferred by the University of Malta payable against the issuance of monthly VAT invoices following the provision of monthly timesheets and final report by the selected candidate.
- Total remuneration for the engagement is that of EUR 3,000, exclusive of 18% VAT.
