Malta’s next Science and Arts Festival will take place physically on the 29 and 30 September 2023 in Triton Square, the mall and Sala San Duminku. The SitC team has just launched the call for artist participation. Submitted proposals are to include inspiration for transformative changes as the theme Changemakers suggests.
Artists are encouraged to create pieces that evoke emotion and empathy about particular issues relevant to the SitC audiences and society in general, to motivate them to move beyond intention and into action.
The call looks for collaborations between artists, researchers and community members, creating networks that can identify social issues and provide scientific knowledge about those issues. Creativity, the arts and innovative ideas are to be used as tools to help translate the research and engage audiences both at home and overseas. The call stresses that it is through creativity and knowledge that we will be able to find solutions to the issues we are facing.
About the theme, Karen Fiorini, Festival Manager, said “We are looking to foster an approach that provides societal support, freedom, and the confidence to reach one’s full potential to be able to make a difference in the lives of others”. The upcoming festival seeks to nurture the skills and experiences needed to become a changemaker, while cultivating the environment that allows change-making to flourish.
Festival Coordinator, Dr Edward Duca added that “Change is firmly rooted in diversity and inclusivity. It is essential that we tap into our collective ideas, experiences, thoughts, cultures, ethnicities, abilities and backgrounds if we are to carve a new reality for our future”.
