What's new in OAR@UM
Open Access fact of the month
Although not classified as a metadata aggregator or OAI service provider but rather an online combined bibliographic catalogue, OAIster represents another invaluable Open Access resource. Much like BASE, CORE, and other aforementioned tools, it employs the OAI-PMH protocol to collect metadata of OA materials from compliant digital libraries, institutional repositories, and online journals. OAIster is produced and maintained by the OCLC, an US-based nonprofit cooperative organization interested in expanding access to information sources and reducing their costs, and currently contains over 50 million records of diversified content from more than 2000 data providers. The database of harvested records can be accessed either on its own, or via WorldCat.org, the world’s largest online public access catalog, offering a more complex research experience.
