What's new in OAR
Newest additions to the Maltese Journals collection
The ever-growing collection of Maltese journals in OAR@UM has recently received new issues of some of the most prominent periodicals, specifically Xjenza, Journal of the Malta College of Family Doctors, and Postcolonial Directions in Education.
Xjenza, the flagship journal of the Malta Chamber of Scientists, introduced the second issue of 2021 Volume 9 along with a separate Special issue. While the former brings forth mere 3 articles focusing on dentistry, education, and the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the scope of the special issue is far wider, spanning the fields of pharmacology, orthography, obstetrics, gynecology, and psychology, to name a few. Among other things, the main purpose of the special issue is to provide a snapshot of the best scientific endeavors (and the best scientists) in Malta.
In its 3 original articles, Journal of the Malta College of Family Doctors, vol. 10 issue 1, tackles the trends in public perceptions towards euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in local settings, presents a thorough comparison of the GP trainees’ evaluations of placements within Malta’s Specialist Training Programme in Family Medicine before and after the prolonged break caused by the pandemic, and analyzes the mental health referrals from public health centers to the Mater Dei Hospital.
Last but not least, the newest issue of Postcolonial Directions in Education (vol. 10 issue 2) pays tribute to a Brazilian educator and philosopher, a devoted advocate of critical pedagogy, Paulo Freire. All 8 articles and 1 book review contained within are dedicated to celebrating his life, achievements, influence, and work.
